In 1937 L&G Roberts established themselves as wet fish merchants on Lowestoft’s historic Fish Market. Since then, a renowned and highly regarded reputation for supplying quality local fish and shellfish has been steadily growing. Today we consider ourselves to be one of the premier suppliers of prime seafood on the East Coast, selling directly to local restaurants, pubs and hotels and well as an army of loyal walk-in customers. Lionel and Gary Roberts continue the grand tradition and are still involved daily at the Lowestoft depot, delivery quality seafood 7 days a week.

We source all our fish ensuring that sustainability, traceability and responsibility underpin everything we sell. We buy seasonal fish and shellfish, when available, from local boats that operate from the Thames to the Wash and actively promote our inshore Under 10m Suffolk fleet and all the heritage that accompanies their profession.

We also have access to the finest regional mixed fisheries of our isles and with next day logistics in place, we can readily source different species from markets around the UK including Peterhead, Brixham, and Newlyn, using our buyers who only purchase from the top boats and where we can trace the product right back to the vessel and its skipper.

We are also fishermen ourselves! Recently the company was acquired by Steve and Emma Wightman of Wightman Fishing Ltd and Skipper Steve operates the “Georgie Girl” LT 1042 from Lowestoft Harbour, long lining seasonally for cod, bass and skate. We are the only merchants in Lowestoft to both catch and deliver in true “net to plate” style.

“We’ve enjoyed a fantastic relationship with L&G Roberts for about 12 years now. One of the best things about them has to be their continuity of supply. Not just in the 7-day a week delivery, (which is amazing) but in the consistent quality of their products. Stunningly fresh, local and other UK soured fish and shellfish come to us with full traceability and maximum integrity. We know the provenance is sound and when dealing with them the relationship is more like that of friends. They’re fiercely loyal and go the extra mile time after time.” Sophie Dorber, May 2017
